Blessed To Be A Blessing: God’s Purpose For Wealth, Faith, Evangelism, And Eternal Treasure

By Robert Woeger
Christian Author And Minister

The Christian life was never meant to be lived for selfish gain, temporary applause, or the building of a personal kingdom that fades with time. Every breath, every gift, every opportunity, every financial blessing, and every open door should be brought under the Lordship of Jesus Christ and used for the glory of God. The true purpose of life is not merely to succeed on earth, but to glorify God, enjoy Him forever, and help advance His Kingdom on earth as it is in Heaven.

This Bible-based Christian teaching by Robert Woeger explains what it means to be blessed to be a blessing, why God gives resources for Kingdom purpose, and how believers can use finances, gifts, words, faith, and opportunities to glorify God and help more people come to salvation through Jesus Christ.

This teaching is intended for spiritual encouragement and biblical prayer, and it should be received alongside wise pastoral care, medical care, or professional counseling when needed.

All Scripture quotations in this article are from the King James Version.

What Does Blessed To Be A Blessing Mean?

To be blessed to be a blessing means God gives His people life, salvation, wisdom, strength, provision, influence, gifts, talents, finances, and opportunities so they can glorify Him and help others. A blessing from God is not meant to become an idol, a trophy, or a selfish possession. It is meant to become a surrendered tool in the hands of a faithful believer who desires to advance God’s Kingdom, serve others, and point more people to Jesus Christ.

God blesses His people so they can become a blessing. He gives resources, wisdom, favor, strength, influence, and provision not so believers can exalt themselves, but so they can serve His eternal purposes. Genesis 12:2 says, “And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing.” The blessing of God is never meant to stop with the person who receives it. God’s blessing is meant to flow through obedient hearts, generous hands, faithful words, and lives surrendered to His will.

Wealth, finances, prosperity, gifts, talents, platforms, relationships, and opportunities all become holy when they are placed in the hands of God for Kingdom purpose. They become dangerous when they are used only to build pride, comfort, reputation, or earthly security. Jesus warned clearly in Matthew 6:19-21, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

To store treasure in Heaven is to invest your life in what matters forever. Souls matter forever. The Gospel matters forever. Faith in Jesus Christ matters forever. The Word of God matters forever. Every choice you make with your time, words, money, influence, and obedience either helps move you closer to God’s purpose or pulls you deeper into distraction. Life is a series of choices, and those choices reveal whether you are living by faith or by sight, for God’s Kingdom or your own.

The world teaches people to gather, display, compete, consume, and protect their own image. The Word of God calls believers to humble themselves, pray, obey, speak God’s Word in faith, walk in love, resist deception, and live for eternal fruit. 2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” Faith does not ignore practical responsibility, but it refuses to make earthly possessions the center of life. Faith sees every blessing as a stewardship from God.

The greatest blessing anyone can receive is salvation through Jesus Christ. John 3:16 declares, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” Because salvation is eternal, evangelism is at the heart of every Christian’s earthly assignment. The believer is not here merely to survive, prosper, retire, and be remembered. The believer is here to glorify God, represent Jesus Christ, share truth, pray in faith, give with purpose, and help more people come to saving faith in the Son of God.

Being blessed to be a blessing means your life becomes a vessel for God’s glory. Your finances become tools for Kingdom advancement. Your words become carriers of truth. Your choices become seeds of eternal reward. Your opportunities become assignments. Your obedience becomes worship. Your faith becomes a testimony. Your generosity becomes a witness. Your life begins to say, “Lord, everything I have belongs to You, and everything I am is for Your glory.”

Matthew 6:33 gives the priority that must govern every Christian life: “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” When God’s Kingdom comes first, money finds its proper place. Success finds its proper place. Personal ambition bows before divine assignment. The question is no longer, “How much can I gain for myself?” The better question becomes, “Lord, how can what You have placed in my hands help more people know Jesus Christ, believe Your Word, and spend eternity with You?”

This is the heart of being blessed to be a blessing.

FAQ: Blessed To Be A Blessing

What Does It Mean To Be Blessed To Be A Blessing?

To be blessed to be a blessing means God gives His people resources, gifts, wisdom, favor, opportunities, and provision so they can glorify Him and help others. God’s blessing is not meant to end in selfish comfort. It is meant to flow through a believer’s life in generosity, evangelism, prayer, service, obedience, and love.

Genesis 12:2 says, “And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing.”

What Is The Purpose Of Life According To Christian Faith?

The purpose of life is to glorify God, enjoy Him forever, and live in faithful relationship with Him through Jesus Christ. A Christian’s life should point others to God, advance His Kingdom, and bear eternal fruit. True purpose is not found in possessions, fame, status, or self-promotion, but in knowing God, obeying His Word, walking by faith, and helping others come to salvation through Jesus Christ.

Why Does God Bless People With Wealth, Finances, And Opportunities?

God blesses people with wealth, finances, and opportunities so they can steward those blessings for His glory. Provision is not wrong when it is submitted to God. The danger comes when money becomes an idol, a source of pride, or the focus of life. God’s blessings should be used to support the Gospel, care for others, advance Kingdom work, strengthen families, and help more people hear the truth of Jesus Christ.

Should Christians Seek Earthly Treasure Or Heavenly Treasure?

Christians should not make earthly treasure the goal of life. Jesus taught believers to store treasure in Heaven, where it cannot decay, be stolen, or be destroyed. Earthly possessions are temporary, but eternal investments in God’s Kingdom last forever.

Matthew 6:20 says, “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.”

How Can Christians Store Treasure In Heaven?

Christians store treasure in Heaven by living for God’s eternal purposes. This includes sharing the Gospel, supporting evangelism, giving generously, serving others, obeying God’s Word, praying in faith, walking in love, helping people grow spiritually, and using every blessing to honor Jesus Christ. Heavenly treasure is connected to eternal fruit, especially helping people come to faith in Jesus Christ.

Why Is Evangelism Central To The Christian Life?

Evangelism is central to the Christian life because Jesus Christ came to save the lost, and He sends His followers to proclaim the Gospel. Every believer has a responsibility to represent Christ through words, actions, prayer, generosity, and truth. The greatest need of humanity is salvation through Jesus Christ.

Mark 16:15 says, “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”

How Should Christians Use Their Money For God’s Kingdom?

Christians should use money prayerfully, wisely, generously, and obediently. Money should not rule the heart. It should serve God’s purposes. Believers can use finances to support Gospel ministry, help the poor, strengthen Christian outreach, provide for family needs, publish truth, support missions, and open doors for more people to hear about Jesus Christ.

Is Prosperity Wrong For A Christian?

Prosperity itself is not wrong when it is submitted to God and used for His purposes. The Bible warns against trusting in riches, loving money, and living selfishly. The issue is not merely what a person has, but who has the person’s heart. Prosperity becomes dangerous when it replaces dependence on God. It becomes useful when it is surrendered to God for Kingdom advancement.

1 Timothy 6:17-19 says, “Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God… That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute, willing to communicate.”

What Is The Difference Between Building God’s Kingdom And Building Your Own Kingdom?

Building God’s Kingdom means living for His glory, obeying His Word, walking in humility, advancing the Gospel, and helping others come to faith in Jesus Christ. Building your own kingdom means living for pride, self-promotion, control, greed, applause, or temporary success. The Christian life requires surrendering personal ambition to the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

How Do Choices Affect A Christian’s Effectiveness For God?

Choices shape direction, character, influence, and spiritual fruit. Every day, believers make choices with their words, money, time, thoughts, relationships, and obedience. Wise choices help Christians become more effective in reaching others for Jesus Christ. Selfish or deceptive choices weaken spiritual impact. God calls believers to choose faith, truth, humility, obedience, generosity, and eternal purpose.

Why Must Christians Walk By Faith And Not By Sight?

Christians must walk by faith because God’s truth is greater than visible circumstances. Walking by sight causes people to be controlled by fear, greed, pride, pressure, and temporary appearances. Walking by faith means trusting God’s Word, obeying His voice, speaking His truth, and living for eternal reward even when the world does not understand.

2 Corinthians 5:7 says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

How Can A Believer Avoid Deception And Hold Onto Truth?

A believer avoids deception by staying rooted in God’s Word, praying for wisdom, obeying Scripture, rejecting lies, testing every message by biblical truth, and remaining humble before God. Deception often appeals to pride, selfish desire, fear, or compromise. Truth leads the believer closer to Jesus Christ, holiness, love, obedience, and eternal life.

What Is The Main Message Of Blessed To Be A Blessing?

The main message is that God blesses His people so they can glorify Him, advance His Kingdom, and help more people come to salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. Life is not about storing up temporary treasure on earth. It is about living with eternal purpose, using every blessing for God’s glory, and helping others know the truth of the Gospel.

Ask God to show you what He has placed in your hands, then surrender it back to Him for His glory. Your finances, words, time, influence, talents, and opportunities can become tools of eternal purpose when they are yielded to Jesus Christ. Do not live merely to build something that will fade. Live to glorify God, advance His Kingdom, and help more people receive salvation through faith in Jesus Christ.
